How we handle your personal information, the cookies this site sets, and the terms that apply when you buy from us in Quebec and elsewhere in Canada.

Privacy
Designtech is established in Quebec. Your personal information is protected by the Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector, as amended by Law 25, and - for orders and information crossing provincial or national borders - by the federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).
Who is responsible
- Law 25 requires every business to designate a person responsible for the protection of personal information. Ours is identified in the merchant details at the bottom of this page, with the address to write to.
- That person handles access requests, corrections, complaints, and any question about how your information is used.
What we collect
- Your name, email address, phone number and delivery address, when you place an order.
- Your order history, including what you bought and what you paid.
- The artwork and text you upload to personalize a product. These are files you send us on purpose, and we treat them as yours.
- Messages you send through the contact and repair request forms, including the device and problem you describe.
- If you create an account: your password, stored only as a cryptographic hash that cannot be turned back into the original.
- We do not collect sensitive information, and we do not ask for it.
Why we collect it, and nothing more
- To take, produce and deliver your order, and to print exactly what you designed.
- To send you an order confirmation, and to reach you if something about your order needs a decision.
- To answer contact messages and quote repairs.
- To keep our own record of what was sold, which tax and accounting rules require us to keep.
- These are the only purposes. If we ever wanted to use your information for something else, we would have to ask you first, for that specific purpose.
Your consent
- Giving us your delivery details is what allows the sale to happen: without them the order cannot be produced or shipped.
- You can withdraw your consent at any time for anything that is not required to complete an order you have already placed, or to meet our legal obligations.
- We do not make decisions about you by automated means alone, and there is no profiling on this site.
Who else sees it, and where it is stored
- Payment providers. If you pay by card or PayPal, the payment happens on their pages: we receive a confirmation and a reference, never your card number.
- Our email provider, which delivers order confirmations on our behalf.
- Our hosting provider, on whose servers this site and its database run. Those servers may be located outside Quebec and outside Canada, which means your information may be stored and processed in another jurisdiction and be subject to its laws. You can ask us where your information is held.
- Nobody else. We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information, and no advertising or analytics company is embedded in this site.
How long we keep it
- Order and billing records: kept as long as tax and accounting rules require.
- Uploaded artwork: kept while your order is produced, and long enough afterwards to reprint it if something goes wrong. Deleting an order deletes its artwork from our servers.
- Account details: kept until you ask us to close the account.
- Contact and repair messages: kept while we deal with them and for a reasonable period afterwards.
- When information is no longer needed for the purpose it was collected for, it is deleted or anonymized.
Your rights
- Access - ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
- Correction - have anything inaccurate, incomplete or out of date put right.
- Withdrawal of consent - as described above.
- Portability - since 22 September 2024, ask to receive the computerized personal information you gave us in a structured, commonly used technological format.
- De-indexation - ask us to stop disseminating your information, or to de-index a link, where the law allows.
- Deletion of your account - we keep the record of completed sales without the account attached to it, because tax rules require us to keep our books.
- To exercise any of these, write to the person responsible, identified below. We answer within 30 days.
If something goes wrong
- If a confidentiality incident presents a risk of serious injury, we notify the Commission d'accès à l'information and the people concerned, and we keep a register of incidents, as Law 25 requires.
- If you are not satisfied with our answer, you may complain to the Commission d'accès à l'information du Québec.
- For matters covered by the federal law, you may complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
Emails we send
- Order confirmations and messages about a specific order or repair are sent because you asked us to do something - they are part of the transaction.
- We will only send promotional email if you have agreed to receive it, and every such message will identify us and carry a working unsubscribe link, as Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation requires.
Terms of sale
These terms apply when you buy a product or a repair from Designtech through this site. Because the sale is concluded at a distance, Quebec's Consumer Protection Act gives you specific rights, set out here and in the returns section.
Before you buy
- Our name and contact details are at the bottom of this page.
- Each product page shows a description of the item, its price, and the options available. The cart and checkout show the shipping cost and the total before you confirm.
- For a personalized product, the editor shows the charge for each print location beyond the first before you add the item to your basket.
- You receive a confirmation of your order by email once it is placed.
Prices and taxes
- Prices are shown in Canadian dollars (CAD), before taxes.
- GST at 5% and QST at 9.975% apply to orders delivered in Quebec, and are billed with your order. Other provinces are taxed at the rate applicable there.
- Shipping is a flat $15.00, and is free on orders of $100.00 or more.
- Our tax registration numbers appear in the merchant details below.
Your order
- Placing an order is an offer to buy. The sale is complete once we confirm it, and we may decline or cancel an order - for example if an item is out of stock or a price was displayed in error. If we cancel, you are refunded in full.
- Delivery times are estimates and start once the item has been produced, which for personalized items is after printing.
- If a parcel arrives damaged, tell us as soon as you can and keep the packaging.
Personalized products
- You are responsible for what you upload. By sending us artwork or text you confirm you have the right to have it printed.
- We may refuse to print anything unlawful, hateful, or infringing someone else's rights, and will refund an order we refuse on those grounds.
- The editor preview is a representation, not an exact proof. Small differences in colour, position and size between the preview and the printed item are normal.
Repairs
- A repair quote is an estimate based on the problem you describe. If the device turns out to need more work, we contact you before doing it.
- Some faults cannot be repaired, and some damage only becomes visible once a device is opened. We will tell you if that happens.
- Please back up your device before handing it in. We take care of your data but cannot be responsible for content lost during a repair.
Language and applicable law
- This site and these terms are available in French and in English. In Quebec, the French version prevails.
- These terms are governed by the laws applicable in Quebec.
- Nothing here limits your right, as a consumer, to bring an action in the district where you reside. Any clause purporting to do so would be without effect.
Returns and refunds
Two separate things apply here: the legal warranty, which the law gives you and which we cannot take away, and our own return policy, which is what we offer on top of it.
The legal warranty comes first
- Under Quebec's Consumer Protection Act, what we sell you must be fit for its intended use and must last a reasonable length of time, given its price and the way it is used.
- This warranty applies automatically. It is not limited to any period we announce, it costs nothing, and no policy on this page reduces it.
- It applies to personalized items exactly as it does to anything else: a custom-printed case that fails early is covered.
- Where a manufacturer also offers a warranty, that is in addition to your legal warranty, not instead of it.
Faulty, damaged or incorrect items
- Tell us and we will repair, replace or refund it, whichever suits the situation.
- Send a photo if the problem is visible - it usually saves a return trip.
- This applies to personalized items too: if we printed it wrong, or it arrived damaged, that is on us.
Changing your mind
- Accessories and other non-personalized products can be returned within 14 days of delivery, unused and in their original packaging. This is our own policy, offered on top of your legal rights.
- Personalized products are made to your design and cannot be returned simply because you changed your mind - but see the legal warranty above, which still applies to them.
- Return shipping is yours to pay when you are changing your mind, and ours when the item was faulty or we sent the wrong thing.
Cancelling a distance contract
- Quebec law lets you cancel a contract concluded at a distance in certain cases: notably if we did not give you the required information before the sale, or did not send you the contract afterwards.
- You may also cancel if we have not delivered within 30 days of the date announced, unless you agreed to the delay.
- To cancel, tell us in any way that leaves a trace - email or the contact form is fine. We refund within 15 days.
- If we do not refund within 15 days, you may ask your card issuer for a chargeback, as the Consumer Protection Act allows.
How to ask
- Contact us with your order number and what is wrong.
- Refunds are issued to the payment method used for the order.
- Once approved, a refund is normally processed within a few working days, though your bank may take longer to show it.
